Don't throw good money after bad.

Oxford University recently compiled a list of the top 10 Most Irritating Phrases in use today.
The number one most irritating phrase according to Oxford was “at the end of the day.” That’s funny to me because it is one of my staples. At the end of the day we all have a few little crutch phrases we use.

When you boil it all down (another fave ) not a single one of us can truthfully say we don’t use an irritating phrase or three. If you used when you boil it all down and at the end of the day together you are really getting specific. There’s no better time to boil it all down than at the end of the day. At the end of the day you can’t boil it all down at a better time. I’m just being honest with you.

I mean what are we thinking using these annoying little crutch phrases? They really DON’T MEAN anything. You can substitute one for the other without altering the meaning of the sentence very much. Really, try it. Take out I mean in the first sentence in this paragraph and put in at the end of the day or to be honest with you.

I’ve always heard it said you have to dance with the girl who brought you to the ball. It would be un-wise in fact to change horses in mid stream. You don’t want to be a dime holding up a dollar. Even the most frivolous among us knows that a penny saved is a penny earned which is important in these tight economic times because you can’t get blood out of a turnip.

Don’t take this too lightly. It’s a serious matter we all should work on correcting. You could say it’s time to fish or cut bait. In the big scheme of things that’s not a bad idea, per se’.
